Then we sit back and watch the reaction and see what impact this has on whether people take the stairs or the escalator.

People’s reactions are delightful and a lovely insight into human behaviour. But skipping to the end, don’t forget the scientific experiment. The upshot was that there was a 66% increase in people taking the stairs instead of the escalator. Exciting stuff for me and anyone who believes passionately in the importance of holistic user experience design.

Another experiment in the series proves that by making a rubbish bin play a sound that gives the impression it is as deep as a well, results in a huge increase in usage (approx 70%).

Watch them all on www.rolighetsteorin.se/en, they’re great!

Volkswagen (Stockholm) latest viral video campaign is parked on a site called ‘Rolighetsteorin’ which means something like “Theory of Fun” in English.
