Interactive magazine covers
Just because you can read books, magazines and newspapers on the iPad, e-readers and other mobile devices doesn’t mean people actually will.
Clay Shirky said “A revolution does not happen when a society adopts new tools. It happens when it adopts new behaviours” (source: Us Now).
Shiny new gadgets alone are not enough to get people to abandon paper. Just as it is not necessarily that print is broken in so much as we don’t like paper anymore; it’s just that printed information takes so long to produce and distribute that things have moved on by the time it’s out.
Once again, I would argue that experience matters and is possibly everything. Steve Jobs described the iPad as Apple’s “imost advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price”. Devices like the iPad will only be successful if they appeal and are desirable to the masses. The iPad needs to delivering new, exciting experiences that add value and enrichment in some way to the way we consume information and entertainment. Only then will it become a revolutionary device.
This video shows how interactive Magazine covers on iPad could look in the future. This kinda creative future gazing is what I love about this industry.
