iPad an accessible device for all
After the biggest hype build up the tech world has ever seen, it is now time for a thorough examination of the iPad. Question is, how accessible is it?
The iPad is rammed with cool features but it is good to see that Apple didn’t neglect assistive technology features.
Like the iPhone, the iPad has the following core accessibility features:
- VoiceOver
- screen zoom
- closed-captioned content
- white-on-black display
- mono audio
But beyond all of that, it’s great to see that the iPad also includes the following helpful user options:
- Large size (visual impairments)
- Speakers (visual impairments)
- Simple Interface (cognitive impairments)
- External Keyboard (physical impairments affecting movement)
It’s good to see Apple including such features as standard. It is certainly better than Kindle in that respect. There’s always more to do but this is a good array of assistive features to start with. For more details on exactly what each of these features is and does, read this in depth post on AtMac blog which focuses on assistive technologies for Apple and Mac users.
